The Sealy, Cornwall and Allin families of County Cork. Merchants and Bandon Gentry

Our new publication is entitled 'The Sealy, Cornwall and Allin Families of County Cork: Merchants and Bandon Gentry'.  It is now available on Amazon.  This latest study focuses on three protestant families who had important connections with Bandon.  Proceeds from the sales of the book with be donated to the Allin Institute Restoration project.  Fundraising initiatives have recently commenced in earnest as the community building has fallen into considerable disrepair in recent years. The building was bequeathed to the community by James Allin in 1867.

A Social History of North Main Street and Kilbrogan Hill, Bandon, County Cork

Our new publication entitled Bandon, County Cork.  A Social History of North Main Street and Kilbrogan Hill is now available from Amazon.  The study focuses on the evolution of a part of Bandon once filled with tanneries, malt houses, shops, public buildings and residential dwellings.  It is intended to be of assistance to those researching their ancestors who once lived in the area.  Family members of familiar Bandon settler surnames such as Bennett, Fuller, Hunter, Appelbe, Lee, Loane, Williams, Robinson, Clear, Baldwin, Burchill, Tresilian and Teulon all either held leases or lived on the street themselves for a time.  The study also analyses the immense influence of the Devonshire Estate as far as it related to the street.

re: The Bernards of Castle Bernard

We have now started to add a family tree relating to the Bernards of Castle Bernard. We have also added the tree of the Frekes of Castle Freke who inter-married with the Bernards a number of times through the generations.

We will be making additions to the trees as and when we get information as there are a few gaps and unverified entries particularly in the 1600s. If you can help us with our research,we would love to hear from you so please contact the webmaster at bandon.genealogy@gmail.com. We would be particularly interested to find out more about Francis who married Alice Freke as we haven't been able to identify this freke as being of the Shroton family. We are also looking for information about Sir George Reynolds and Percy Freke.

Bandon Lease information 1600-1800s

We have been researching leases in the Bandon area that fall between the 1600 and 1800s. These leases are full of family information including family members and relationships. We are posting some of this information on the site today which we hope that researchers will enjoy. Some of these leases are difficult to read so some errors may well occur in transcription. In spite of any potential errors, these leases are a treasure for Bandon researchers as many contain information not found elsewhere.

Ballymodan Protestant Census for 1846

Today we managed to post part of the 1846 Ballymodan protestant census (A to Fa) on our website. The remainder of the census will be posted at a later date.

Unlike the 1834 census, this manuscript did not contain the ages of the children but it did contain notes about some of the families in the census. We have posted these notes along with the householder details as we feel that it is interesting for those researching their families. As with the 1834 census, some entries were difficult to read so there could well be errors in the transcriptions. We apologize for this..
