A new free website with Irish Church Records online

A free website now exists which is putting church records online. Dublin and parts of Kerry are now on the site. We have tried it and found it very useful.

The following is a recent posting on the site:-

In the first phase of the project, church records for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kerry are available as are a subset of the Church of Ireland parishes in Kerry. The remainder of the extant Church of Ireland records for Kerry will be made available in due course. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kerry includes parishes in western and north-western areas of County Cork.
The church records for a subset of the Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes in Dublin City are also available. Work is progressing on the completion of the Dublin City records.
The release of further records for online access will proceed on a phased basis. Please refer to the “update of progress” section in this website for news of upcoming releases.

re: Search Upgrade to the Irish 1911 Census

From 1st January 2010, the 1911 census is searchable for all of the information on the original census return. Click on "more search options" and you can search by religion, occupation, marital status, illness. This enables historians to narrow their search and is particularly helpful if you are searching for family members with a commmon surname.

Bandon Ordinance Survey maps

Be sure to take a look at the historical archives on the Ordinance Survey website to see maps dating from 1837. These are particularly useful for people researching particular townlands in Bandon where their ancestors may have lived

Bandon related wills at the UK Registry of Deeds

There are some Bandon related wills at the UK Registry of Deeds. Families who had UK assets had to take out probate in the UK. We have been donated a list of Bullen wills that we have posted on our website These wills related to Bullen Families with Bandon connections.
