We'll do some digging and will see if we can find out something about your family. You must have visited a house in South Main Street, most likely somewhere near Ballymodan Place. Perhaps we will be able to pinpoint it for you.

You have a great blog!

Hi, My name is Trish Forte', my Grandfather, Robert Leith was born in Lismaloughlin, Castlemartyr, Ireland. However, when he immigrated to Canada and searched his birth certificate the name on it was Robert Salter of Bandon. His father was Samuel Salter and his uncles were John and Robert Salter, Robert Salter was a clothier who had a shop on South Main Street in Bandon. If you have any records or information about these Salters from Bandon I would REALLY appreciate the info, we are at a dead end here in trying to get records. I understand alot of information was lost during the war due to damage at the Four Courts in Dublin. Also, John's wife was Eliza Kate Leith and I have been told that John had her "committed" to the mental institute in Fota? But we cannot confirm this information either. Thank you. Trish
